La depresión es una enfermedad de nuestros tiempos. El estrés, la ansiedad y el estilo de vida acelerado agravan este mal.
Estar tristes todo el tiempo, cansados, decaídos, sin ánimo de nada se ha convertido en un estilo de vida, el cual creemos que es “normal”; nos sentimos cansados “como siempre” y la realidad es que vivir cansados, tristes y apáticos no es una condición normal.
¿Qué produce la depresión? En el cerebro tenemos cientos de sustancias químicas que continuamente llevan a cabo diversas tareas. Las emociones como el dolor, la pena, el estrés, enfermdades, cambios hormonales, etc; modifican la química cerebral.
En la mayoría de las personas, cuando estas emociones disminuyen y van perdiendo peso, las alteraciones químicas también vulevn a la normalidad.
¿Pero qué pasa cuando esto se convierte en una condición repetitiva y contínua?
La química cerebral influye sobre nuestras emociones, estados de ánimo y pensamientos, pero también, éstos influyen y alteran nuestra química cerebral.

Sabemos que los tratamientos de fármacos contra la depresión (cuando es enfermedad, no una tristeza causado por un evento desafortunado) son una solución, siempre y cuando sean prescritos por un psiquiatra; sin embargo, existen alternativas previas o complementarias que pueden reducir la depresión y una de ellas es la práctica del Yoga.
En un estudio realizado en 2016, por la Universidad de Pensilvania, los investigadores encontraron que los participantes que sufrían de depresión experimentaron un alivio significativo al utilizar el yoga. Los pacientes en ese estudio tuvieron una respuesta inadecuada a los medicamentos antidepresivos.1

Con la práctica del yoga se ve una mejor respuesta ante el estrés, ansiedad y despresión. Los ejercicios de respiración profunda junto con la conciencia corporal, traen la mente al presente, lo cual la aleja del conflicto y ayuda a tomar una prespectiva distinta de los problemas.
Posturas como Sirshasana (parado de cabeza) o Vipartia Karani despiertan toda esta química cerebral que proporciona sensación de bienestar y felicidad.
Brindan una sensación de estabilidad emocional y promueve la circulación de la sangre a la cabeza oxigenando al cerebro y desintoxicando. Calman al sistema nervioso y ayudan a reducir el insomnio.
