Tips para el sauna

¡Banda fitness team #pielsana! Este mes les traigo información que me han pedido mucho sobre los beneficios del sauna para la piel. Para enriquecer la información, platiqué con el Dr. Luis Rodrigo Flores Bozo, dermatólogo en Clínica Dermédica , y aquí les dejo lo más relevante y que todos los que tenemos fitness lifestyle ¡debemos saber!

El sauna genera múltiples beneficios en la piel:

  • Estimulando la circulación y la sudoración, actúa abriendo los poros y facilitando la eliminación de impurezas, toxinas y células muertas.
  • Como resultado, la piel luce y se siente más saludable e hidratada.
  • Se ha visto además, que puede ayudar a pacientes con acné y enfermedades que cursan con la formación de escama, como la psoriasis. Sin embargo, puede empeorar la rosácea y generar comezón o irritar la piel en pacientes con dermatitis atópica.

A todo esto… ¿Qué es el sauna?

El sauna es un baño de calor que se realiza en un recinto a muy alta temperatura. Dependiendo de la humedad relativa del ambiente, el sauna puede ser húmedo o seco:

En el sauna húmedo o baño turco, la humedad relativa es muy alta y la temperatura llega a 70 °C, en cambio, en el sauna seco, la humedad es mínima y la temperatura alcanza hasta 90 °C.

El sauna ha ganado mayor popularidad en la actualidad, gracias a los beneficios en salud, belleza y bienestar que diversas investigaciones han demostrado y se encuentra disponible cada vez con mayor frecuencia en gimnasios y spa.

A pesar de que el sauna genera cambios cardiovasculares transitorios, es en general bien tolerado por la mayoría de los adultos sanos. Algunos estudios han demostrado beneficios en pacientes con hipertensión arterial sistémica, asma bronquial, bronquitis crónica y mejoría del dolor y de la función articular en enfermedades reumatológicas.

Se considera además que puede mejorar el desempeño en los deportes, aliviar temporalmente los síntomas de un resfriado y reducir el estrés y la ansiedad. Sin embargo, es importante utilizarlo con moderación, y, las embarazadas y personas con ciertas condiciones médicas, como cardiopatía isquémica (angina de pecho o historia de infarto), insuficiencia cardiaca, hepática, renal o problemas de sudoración; deberán consultar a su médico previamente.

Tips para gozar el sauna al 100%

  • Evitar comidas abundantes previo al ingreso al sauna.
  • Se recomienda beber dos a cuatro vasos de agua (medio a un litro) antes de ingresar al recinto, dado que se generará sudoración abundante y con ello, la pérdida de agua y electrolitos, lo que puede generar deshidratación.
  • Evita el consumo de bebidas alcohólicas previo y durante la sesión de sauna, debido a que incrementan la deshidratación, además de los efectos tóxicos propios del alcohol.
  • Lleva una toalla limpia para sentarte y proteger la piel que entra en contacto con las bancas.

Lo que no debes hacer en el sauna y vestidor

  • Puede utilizarse un traje de baño, holgado y que no tenga partes de metal.
  • No utilices nada de metal (collares, anillos). Los metales se calientan fácilmente y pueden producir quemaduras.
  • El sauna ocasiona que tu piel alcance una temperatura aproximada de 40°C en pocos minutos, por tal motivo, se recomienda limitar el tiempo de la experiencia a 15-20 minutos como máximo.
  • Toma periodos de descanso de por lo menos 10 minutos en un área fresca y no realices actividad física inmediatamente.
  • Puedes realizar de 2 a 3 sesiones de sauna en un día.
  • Toma una ducha con agua tibia fría para refrescarte y eliminar el sudor entre sesiones. Si utilizas jabón, éste debe der suave y de preferencia sin fragancias, para evitar irritar la piel.
  • Abandona de inmediato la cabina si sientes que te falta el aire, mareo, náusea o dolor de cabeza. No intentes tolerarlo.
  • Bebe de 2 a 4 vasos de agua (medio a un litro) para compensar la pérdida de líquidos debido a la sudoración. Si sudaste demasiado, puedes comer una merienda salada, con el fin de reponer electrolitos.
  • Aplica crema corporal hidratante sin fragancias al finalizar.
  • En general se recomienda no tomar más de 3 sesiones semanales.

Procura seguir éstos sencillos consejos para utilizar el sauna correctamente y podrás aprovechar al máximo todos sus beneficios.
