Seguro has escuchado o leído que a las personas con sobrepeso alto u obesidad, les recomiendan hacer ejercicio en el agua. Esto se debe a que en el agua nos sentimos más livianos y podemos hacer movimientos que en otro medio sería imposible. 

Lo anterior, por el Principio de Arquímedes (“Todo cuerpo sumergido en un fluido experimenta un empuje vertical y hacia arriba igual al peso de fluido desalojado.”). Vamos a ponernos muy físicos (en sentido científico) y luego lo ponemos “en facilito”: 

  • Cuando un cuerpo se sumerge en un líquido, hay una fuerza que se opone al peso gravitacional. 
  • Por lo tanto, al sumergirnos en el agua; actúa sobre nosotros el peso hacia abajo, y el empuje del agua, hacia arriba. 
  • Como apuntan en sentidos contrarios hay que restarlas, y el resultado es el “peso aparente”, que es lo que sentimos, por eso que nos sentimos más livianos.

Es decir, el agua “nos levanta” ya que además de ser más pesada, tiene mayor densidad y eso hace que “disminuya el efecto” de la fuerza de gravedad

Con base en lo anterior, es que la alberca es el medio ideal para trabajar con tu propio peso cuando: 

  1. tienes lesiones articulares; 
  2. estás saliendo de una cirugía ortopédica y estás en proceso de recuperación; 
  3. o si traes más de 30 kilos encima y quieres empezar a moverte; 

Así que ya sabes, aprovecha la temporada para hacer ejercicios en el agua, no tienes que saber nadar al 100%, basta con:

  • Caminar o trotar en el agua
  • Flotar moviendo brazos y piernas
  • Usar algunas mancuernas o paletas para hacer esfuerzos
  • Desplazarte en el agua, incluso jalándote o ayudándote con el carril o una tabla, haciendo patada. 
  • Nadar bloques cortos
  • Hacer ejercicios como elevación de piernas recargado en la orilla de la alberca o en un carril
